Summer Reading Programs Plus a FREE Homeschool Workshop!

In the previous post, after I uploaded the jpeg file, I could not add any comments.

If you haven’t taken advantage of the summer reading programs through the local libraries, your children are missing some great opportunities to expand their horizons and get some GREAT Prizes!

In Maricopa County, AZ, students can earn free tickets to the Arizona Diamondbacks games.  Here is an excerpt from the Phoenix Libraries Website:

Countywide  Summer Reading  Program Begins May 26

Phoenix Public Library, Phoenix, AZ. — May 14, 2009 — “Extra! Extra! Read Your Way to the Ballpark,” the free  summer reading program co-sponsored by the Arizona Diamondbacks and The Arizona Republic, gets under way Tuesday, May 26 at library systems throughout Maricopa County.

The above program is for grade schoolers, but teens also have great incentives to read:

Express Yourself” Summer Reading Program for Teens May 26 – July 25

Phoenix Public Library, Phoenix, AZ — May 13, 2009 — Teens, ages 12 – 18, can win exciting prizes by participating in Phoenix Public Library’s “Express Yourself” summer reading program May 26 – July 25.

Beginning May 26, teens can register for the program online at phxlib.org/teenreading or pick up a booklog at any Phoenix Public Library. The program is designed to keep teens reading during the summer and features instant and weekly prize drawings, and a grand prize drawing for an Xbox 360 or iPod Touch.

Other programs are held at the Maricopa County Library District and each local town may have their own events.

Speaking of the Maricopa County Library, I have been asked to present a FREE class in June for people wanting to find out about homeschooling.  This is a great opportunity to get your questions answered and get to know a few others who are just getting started.  Here are the details:

Date:  June 25, 2 PM
Location:  Maricopa County Library, Anthem, AZ
  40410 North Gavilan Peak Parkway
Anthem, AZ 85086

Registration begins June 1, and the spaces are likely to fill up quickly.
