Homeschool graduate recognition ceremony deadline for seniors is coming up

Homeschoolers have a wonderful graduation ceremony. Plan now to take part.

As a homeschooling family, you have worked hard to get to the final stage–completion of junior high or high school.  Many families wonder how students can actually graduate, get a diploma, and move on to the next phase of education.

In Arizona, graduates can participate in a wonderful Graduate Recognition Ceremony sponsored by Arizona Families for Home Education (AFHE), the statewide group that also puts on the convention in the summer and does the legislative lobbying to protect our rights.  Often, support groups around the valley also offer their own graduation events, or parents may choose to have a private celebration with family and friends.

Although AFHE does not oversee the student work, and thus does not provide a diploma, the ceremony is a high point for hundreds of homeschoolers each year, and students receive a certificate of participation.  Parents are able to make their own diplomas or may have one made by a company which specializes in such documents.

Both ceremonies will be held at the Phoenix convention center, and attendance is free to the public.  Graduates do need to be members of AFHE to participate.  ***Note:  Deadline for registration for the senior high ceremony is February 10, 2010.  Act fast so you don’t miss out.  Seniors can also apply for the Speech Contest for the selection of the student speaker at the graduate recognition ceremony.
