Homeschool moms always have their eyes open for opportunities that will combine fun, education and some social interaction for the kids and the moms. Kidding Around Playtown goes to the top of the list in all three areas, and for a bonus, it excels in the “adorable” factor.
The Playtown creator is homeschool mom, Tricia Messmer, who is also a former public school teacher. Her experience of eight years teaching gave Tricia the conviction that she wanted to be more involved with her daughters and not miss out on key developmental times. She and her husband considered private school for the girls, but by kindergarten, the oldest daughter was already more advanced than the school program. The cost of using the school for a few things that would have been helpful, plus the daily drive back and forth weighed against any benefits to that arrangement. Thus, the Messmers decided to homeschool.
With mom at home and not working, another source of income was needed. The girls had been to a birthday party at a similar play facility in the east valley, and Tricia knew she could take that idea and run with it. She lamented that the east valley seemed to have more reosurces for homeschoolers, so the idea of a northwest setting for a family business which provided opportunity
